How did you come to work for North?
There’s a bit of history there… I actually worked at Alfred and Further North when I lived in Leeds, after studying at Leeds Met. I’m a big fan and have been following the progress of the brewery since North Brewing Co. burst onto the scene in 2015.
Scrolling through Instagram last summer, I stumbled across North’s job advertisement for a brewer. I was on flexi-furlough at the time and going slightly bonkers not working. I considered applying, polished up my CV and the rest is history!
What was your first memorable beer experience?
As a little girl I remember pinching a swig of my Dad’s Boddington’s every now and again and really enjoying it. The beer that really swung it for me was probably Duchesse de Bourgogne; I had never tried anything like it at the time and my taste buds exploded.
What have you been listening to lately?
PJ Harvey, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, White Denim, Dry Cleaning. I had a bit of a musical mental block this week so stuck Foo Fighters’ self-titled album on and blasted the block away!
What is your favourite spot for a drink?
So many to choose from and so many that I cannot wait to visit when possible again. I have a favourite spot in a little corner of an estuary in the Lake District that happens to be a fabulous place to slide down the wall with a game of cards and a home made pasty… closer to home, in Sheffield, I’m treated to an excellent array of boozers. There are too many to include here but my local spots: Walkley Beer Co and The Raven will probably be the first to see me when pubs are able to reopen. The Crow has been a favourite since it’s opening, nestled into a loop of great supping spots such as Shakespeare’s, The Kelham Island Tavern and Barstewards. Long live the pub!
