How did you come to work for North?
I moved to Leeds to go to University, after a year of an IT degree I decided it wasn’t for me and wanted a change. I then applied for an apprenticeship offered by North Bar, after a small stint in Cross Keys Leeds I joined North HQ. Five years later and I’ve gone from Finance Assistant to Finance & IT Assistant Manager!
What was your first memorable beer experience?
Not including drinking lager in a park with my friends as a teenager, I would have to say having a stein of Bayerische Staatsbrauerei Weihenstephan Oktoberfest beer in Pivni World Beer Freehouse in York. It was my first wheat beer and first beer that wasn’t a mass produced lager. It was great and I followed it up with a couple more steins of it!
What have you been listening to at work?
BBC Radio 6 Music is the standard office music, so anything on there! When I need to focus I’ll put my headphones in and put on a playlist. My playlists can be quite varied, and I have a bit of a reputation in North for having bad taste in music. I’ve been listening to The Cranberries, Eminem, Green Day, My Chemical Romance, Grizzly Bear, Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons, Cascada, 4 Non Blondes – Linda Perry, Busted, amongst many others!
Where is your favourite spot for a drink?
All of our bars, our taproom on Sovereign St, North Bar, Alfred Bar, Further North, Preston Bar, North Bar Social, North Bar Harrogate. I’ve now been sober for about two years and really appreciate that they have a great selection of non-alcoholic beers! Other than that, my favourite spot for a beer would be halfway up a mountain, in a deck chair after a day of skiing! Or anywhere outside with a great view!
